This hypertext project invites students to read a biography about someone who was famous in American history between the Spanish Conquest and 1899.  Students select a book and begin reading, taking notes on various aspects of the person's life.  Since this is a joint project between the history and English departments, students are given time in their history classes to read, and history teachers guide them through the note-taking process.

Ms. Patterson's students then begin the web-creation project, building a hypertext web about their person.  They search the internet for additional information and design and plan the website.  Assessment is based on the size of the web, the amount of information on each screen or lexia, the workability of the links, and the attention to details such as writing conventions, color, and general readability.
