As in the case of La Malinche and her people, white frequently tried to convert Indians to Christianity.    Christianity is one the most practiced religions in the world.  It is one of three religions that make up most of the the world's religious background.

In the 1900's, the american soldiers tried to convert Geronimo and the rest of the Apache Indians to believe in one god.  In their refusal, the americans killed and slaughtered them.  The indians fought back and came near winning until Geronimo surrendered and converted to Christianity.

Even earlier then that, the Spanish conquistadors tried to convert the South American and Latin America Indians to believe as they did.  In their attempt, they slaughtered most of the Indians and now barely any are found in that region.
