Geronimo was one of the
greatest Indian war leader. He was the chief of the ChirichuaApache
tribe. He was born in present-day Clifton, Arizona on 1829.
He was notorious for his raids on the Mexican and American settlements
that were in the southwest. He started this raiding when his wife,
mother and children were killed by Mexicans in 1858.
After a number of raids on American
settlements throughout New Mexico and most
of the Great Plains, Geronimo was wanted
by the U.S. Goverment and was chased into Mexico, were he was captured.
He was sent to Florida to an Indian reservation where he was converted
to Christianity. He participated
in Teddy Roosevelt's inaugral ceremony before he died in 1906.
