New Mexico is one of the largest states in the United States.  It is the 5th largest state, but 32.4% of the land is owned by the goverment.  It is in a desertous region of the United States.  As a matter of fact, it is the bottom left corner state of the "4 Corners."
     The main native groups that inhabit the region are the Navajos and the Apaches.  It was home of many Indian raids and was scavenged for gold by the Spaniards.
     New Mexico is known as the "Land of Achievement."  Its capital is Sante Fe.
The ancient native city of Acoma was also located in New Mexico.  This land was also torn apart by Fransisco Coronado, spanish explorer, who was searching for the Seven Cities of Gold.
