With the slaughter of Black Kettle's people, the Sioux, the Cheyenne and the Arapahoe all joined together as one to gain vengenance on the U.S. Army for their faults.  With the sudden peace between the tribes, the U.S. Army returned to the Sioux's land, intending to finish off the tribe.  Weren't they suprised when they found Sitting Bull and all three tribes standing behind him!  This is known as the, "Battle of Rosebud."
