Second Marriage

After Daniel Parke Custis died with out a will, Martha ran the house that they had called the White House.

She had met General Washington before when Daniel was still alive. She went to a small party at her neighbor's house and he was there. When she was reacquainted with the General, she felt her teenage happiness bubble up inside her. For once since her husbands death, she was truly happy.

Martha got engaged that afternoon, and got married on January 6th, 1759. And inherited the name Ms. Martha Dandridge Custis Washington. They moved away from the White House home and went to live in Mount Vernon with her two children.
