Governor Gooch
Governor Gooch liked to have
large parties (called balls) when he returned home to Virginia. Martha
and her parents got invited to one of these
balls, and there the first person to dance with Martha was Mr.
Daniel Parke Custis. Martha liked him very much and he asked her father
if he could come and visit her at her Chestnut
Grove home. She agreed in a heart beat.
