Laura was born on February 7, 1867 in Pepin, Wisconsin.  Through her child hood she has always grew up with a pet.  Usually the pet would be a dog that is named "Jack".  She only went to school once in awhile because her family kept moving from one place to another.  When she was thirteen years old her family settled in DeSmet and she went to school on a daily basis.  At the age of sixteen, she never graduated from the school in DeSmet.  Then she began teaching at the school in Perry.
