These poems were written by seventh graders in Nancy Patterson's language arts classes at Portland Middle School, in Portland, Michigan.  The writing invitation that these poems are based on is from Fran Claggett's book Drawing Your Own Conclusions and is designed to help students begin their understanding of metaphoric language.
