In Thomas Edison's lifetime he received 1,093 patents in only the United States. That is more than anyone ever. He made improvements on the telephone and telegraph. He created the phonograph (used for playing music), electricity, and the light bulb. He helped develop new transportation items such as the electric streetcars and automobiles. He invented the electric storage battery that we now use in gasoline-powered vehicles and many other things. He also invented wax paper.
