Many people don't know but Thomas Edison was not the first person to invent the electric light bulb. He was though the first to invent a complete indoor lighting system. Before this they had no use for their findings. There weren't any sockets, or switches or insulated wires or a central source that produced electricity. By 1879 he had created a long burning lamp. In 1882 he built a complete lighting system on Pearl Street in New York City.
