After making so much money working for big companies such as Western Union that he decided to build his "invention factory" in Menlo Park, New Jersey. He had always wanted to do this. He became known as "the Wizard of Menlo Park." He was the first person to go into a business of making inventions. The men that worked for him called themselves "muckers" and Tom "old man" even though he was only 30. The first invention created here was the improvement of the telephone transmitter. This allowed people to hear more clearly. The phonograph was also created here.
