His first wife Mary died in 1884. He began to spend less time in Menlo Park. In 1886 he met and married Mina Miller. They moved to West Orange, New Jersey where he had built a laboratory and manufacturing center. He continued on with his inventions there as well, even though there were some financial losses and several of his buildings were burnt down.
