Apache: For a long time the Apache Indians were bothering the Americans. In 1853 a treaty was made and they began to cooperate. They allowed a stagecoach line to cross their land in southwest New Mexico.  They even allowed them to make a station and contracted to supply them firewood! This cooperation ended in 1861 when an Apache cheif was falsely accused of stealing cattle and kidnapping a child. Eventually flag of truce was made.
